Lando Norris: I'll only get nervous in Australia.

While Oscar Piastri is driving a McLaren car on the track, Lando Norris is talking to the press, and in the afternoon they will switch roles. On Sky Sports, Lando, who showed the best time yesterday, confirmed that he had a positive and confident attitude before the start of the season.

Lando Norris: "The feeling behind the wheel on the first day of testing was exactly the same as at the end of last season, and this is a good start. In previous years, we were hampered by various difficulties during the pre-season tests in Bahrain, and the work often did not start well. But everything is going fine now.

A lot of small improvements have been made to the car's design, and our task is to thoroughly check how it all works on the track. So it's not so important yet whether we're ahead of everyone or behind – the lap results will matter when we get to Australia.

The main thing right now is that the start of the tests is going smoothly, although we don't know what programs and fuel load the other teams are working on.  We are busy with comprehensive inspections of the MCL39 and performing a number of specific tasks.

Of course, sometimes you have to spend twenty minutes to replace the rear wing. And sometimes you need to remove the bottom from the car and install it back, but it's better to check everything once again. This is normal, but when such work is carried out, the car may remain in the garage for some time. Today we will continue to operate according to our program and tomorrow, too, to make sure that everything is working as it should.

I want to make sure that we don't encounter any unpleasant surprises in Australia. It may be a boring job, but it's necessary to do it.

For example, yesterday the whole car was sprayed with special green paint to test the effectiveness of aerodynamics, and I didn't see anything in the left mirror at all. This is not an ideal situation, but it is also part of the work on the tests. In addition, this paint has a distinctive smell that can be felt all over the highway – I'm sure that breathing these chemicals is not so healthy.

But the picture of how this paint is distributed throughout the car is important for our aerodynamics specialists who work at the Woking team base. The analysis of such photos allows them to understand in detail the work of the aerodynamic body kit. To be honest, even I do not know what exactly they are checking there, and indeed few people understand this, but engineers receive extremely important information.

Personally, I am in a good mood before the start of the season, I am relaxed and calm, but at the same time, of course, I am inspired. So far, I don't feel any nervousness at all, although I have no doubt that I will be nervous when we start preparing for qualifying in Australia. But now I'm looking forward to continuing to work on the tests and getting ready for the start of the season.

The only thing that upsets me is the weather: I arrived in Bahrain on Saturday, I've been here for four days and I was going not only to train, but also to lie on the beach and sunbathe. But nothing like that, because the sun is not visible at all. Hopefully, the weather will be better in Australia."
