Mark Mateschitz bought Ecclestone's car collection

Former Formula 1 boss Bernie Ecclestone has sold his collection of 69 Formula 1 cars to billionaire Mark Mateschitz, heir to the Red Bull empire, for an undisclosed sum.

Bernie entrusted the sale of the estimated 500 million pounds treasure trove of racing history to the famous British specialist Tom Hartley Jr., but while he was waiting for individual offers for each lot, Mateschitz made an offer that Ecclestone could not refuse.

Bernie Ecclestone: "These are unique cars, they have entered the history of sports and have become milestones of technological progress. They embody the 70-year history of Formula 1.

It's important for me to know that the collection is now in good hands. Mark is the most worthy owner we could ever imagine."
