Domenicali: Cadillac project is a confirmation of F1 evolution
Everyone remembers that Lewis Hamilton's contract with Ferrari was announced more than a year ago, i.e. before the start of last season, and then it became one of the main news. Since then, interest in the alliance between the seven-time world champion and the famous team has only been growing.
It is possible that this will happen with yesterday's news that the application of General Motors and TWG Motorsport, which owns Andretti Global, to organize the 11th Formula 1 team has received final approval from the FIA and FOM.
However, although the story of this application has dragged on for a very long time, there is no doubt that this is not the most difficult task that the owners and managers of the Cadillac F1 project need to solve. It's much more difficult to create a competitive car, but all these people know what they're doing. Even choosing the optimal composition of the riders is not so easy, and there will certainly be more than enough rumors about this during the year.
In this context, the names of talented American Colton Herta are already being mentioned, as well as several Formula 1 veterans who are now out of work: Daniel Ricciardo, Sergio Perez and Valtteri Bottas. It is likely that this list will only expand over the next few months, and some unexpected applicants may appear there.
True, Colton doesn't have enough points yet to get an FIA super license, but the IndyCar season has just begun, and the Andretti Global driver will still have time to solve this problem. If you're lucky, of course, because after the first race of the season, where he finished only 16th, you can't say that.
There is no doubt that Cadillac F1 is concerned about the personnel problem, and behind-the-scenes negotiations with potential candidates are already underway. In the meantime, optimistic speeches are being made, and the important thing is that Formula 1 is happy about the upcoming appearance of a new factory team.
"As we said back in November, General Motors' commitment to bring the Cadillac team to Formula 1 has been an important and positive confirmation of the evolution of our sport," said Stefano Domenicali, CEO and President of Formula 1. I would like to thank GM and TWG for the constructive role they have played over the months, and now we are looking forward to welcoming this team to the starting field. 2026 promises to be another exciting year in the history of Formula 1."
