McLaren is suing a former sponsor, but will not receive the money.
McLaren is suing the Swedish company Huski Chocolate, but the probability that the team will be able to receive any money is very low due to the bankruptcy of the former sponsor.
The Huski Chocolate logos first appeared on the rear wing of the McLaren car in 2019, and the agreements with the Swedish sponsor were designed for three years, and the financial component of the deal, according to the documents, was at the level of 4.66 million euros.
But, as The Race writes, they have not been fully implemented and are unlikely to be: the Swedish company Choki AB, which owns this brand, initiated bankruptcy proceedings in January.
She has multimillion-dollar debts, and financial claims have been made against her not only by several former partners, including McLaren, but also by one of her own shareholders.
Various drinks were produced under the Huski Chocolate brand, primarily hot chocolate, and in previous years the company's logos appeared on Sauber cars – at the time when Finn Rausing was the owner of the Swiss team.
The Swedish billionaire actively supported his compatriot, Marcus Erickson, and there was also a more than noticeable Huski advertisement on the Chip Ganassi Racing team cars, on which the racer competed in IndyCar from 2020 to 2023.
But this company also had sponsorship contracts with several Swedish football clubs, and one of them is already suing it for a similar reason, i.e. it has not fulfilled its financial obligations.
The McLaren team sued the former Swedish partners back in 2023, but as of May 2024, they still owed about one and a half million euros. The proceedings involve not only British, but also Swedish lawyers representing the interests of McLaren, and the Stockholm court has already ruled that the decisions of the British Themis on this litigation are valid in Sweden.
According to The Race, Swedish debtors prefer to remain silent, not responding in any way to the numerous appeals and requests from McLaren and its lawyers.
