McLaren extended contract with Oscar Piastri

On the eve of the first stage of the new Formula 1 season, McLaren announced the extension of the contract with Oscar Piastri. The previous agreement with the Australian driver was calculated until 2026, but now the parties have signed a new "multi-year contract".

Oscar Piastri: "It's nice to know that I am an element of McLaren's long-term strategy. The team believed in me when we signed the contract in 2022. The path we've taken over the last two seasons to help McLaren get back to the top has been incredible.

There are many talented specialists working at the Woking base who helped me win a Formula 1 race at the very beginning of my career. I am very proud to represent this legendary team for many more years.

I'm happy to fight for wins as a McLaren driver. After the fantastic achievements of last season, I want to stay on the cutting edge even more."

Zach Brown, McLaren Racing Executive Director: "It is fantastic that we have been able to confirm the renewal of Oscar's contract with McLaren. Not only is he a talented racer, but his attitude to work and business ethics have made extending his contract an obvious choice.

We have the best driver line-up in Formula 1, and over the last two seasons we have seen how useful Oscar is for the team both on and off the track. He made a fundamental contribution to winning the Constructors' Championship last season, so we are interested to see what results he will achieve in the coming years, as we will continue to fight for the championship title together."

Andrea Stella, team leader: "Continuing to work with Oscar is a symbol of our faith in him, and also reflects our shared desire to fight for the title. It's been a pleasure working with Oscar for the last two seasons. He continues to prove how amazing his talent is, how committed he is to his work, and how much he contributes to the team as a person.

Together with Lando Norris, we have everything we need to move forward in the long term. I expect Oscar to continue to make progress and I know that he will be a great success."
