Carlos Sainz: I do not know when we will earn the first points.

After four years at Ferrari, Carlos Sainz will have a difficult year at Williams in 2025. At a press conference in Melbourne, the Spanish driver told how his adaptation to the new team went, and what his impressions of the FW47 car were.

Carlos Sainz: "The beginning of cooperation with Williams turned out to be positive. Already at the Abu Dhabi tests last year, when I got behind the wheel for the first time and started working with the people I'm going to spend this season with, I saw that everyone was overwhelmed with motivation and everyone wanted to bring the team to the top positions.

The car didn't disappoint me either. The tests in Abu Dhabi went well, then we had a strong winter and pre-season testing. Yes, we are half a second or a second behind the leaders, I don't know for sure, but I hope that the team will continue to progress thanks to the fundamental work that is currently underway. At the end of the year, we'll find out where we stand.

Hopefully, it won't take us many races this season to earn the first points, although we don't know for sure. For my part, I will do my best to finish in the top ten as quickly as possible, but I don't know when that will happen.

I don't think that the statistics of previous years are important in this matter. It is important to progress and correct what has been done wrong in the past. Last year, Williams did not have everything right with the reliability of the car, but in 2025 it was not a problem. That's what I call progress.

I am happy with the team and I see that everyone is also happy and motivated. That's exactly what I like, because everyone is determined to succeed in the medium term.

As for the immediate results, I suggest we wait two or three races, analyze the car and see what positions we can compete for. Then we will understand what goals to set for ourselves, and what results can be considered successful. Until then, it is impossible to say how many points we will be able to earn, and what results we should strive for at the end of the season."
