Alonso: It's a good sign that we fought to reach the final.
Both Aston Martin drivers stopped fighting in the second part of qualifying for the Australian Grand Prix. Nevertheless, Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll are happy with how the session went and expect to earn points in tomorrow's race.
Fernando Alonso (12th): "I am happy with today's qualifying – despite the damaged bottom in the second session, we were close to the top ten.
The first session went well, and we entered the top 10 with a comfortable advantage. But in the second session, I went wide into turn ten and slightly damaged the bottom of the car. It's a good sign that in the first qualifying of the season we were fighting to reach the finals.
Let's see if it rains tomorrow. Albert Park is not the easiest track to race on in the rain because of the visibility. But we are ready, and I hope that we will score points tomorrow."
Lance Stroll (13th): "Considering how the weekend is shaping up for us, I think the thirteenth place can be considered a good result. I was missing a tenth or two to reach the final. Yes, these are not the positions we want to be in, but compared to the rest of the weekend's sessions, we were the most competitive in qualifying.
Apparently, tomorrow will be interesting. If it rains, it can shuffle the cards. In such conditions, there is an opportunity to earn points, but for this you need to be confident in the car."
