They went out: The result is close to the limit of our capabilities
In Melbourne, of the Alpine F1 drivers, only Pierre Gasly made it to the qualifying finals, eventually showing 9th time. Jack Duane, his teammate, has reached the second session, and he will start from 14th position.
Pierre Gasly (9th): "From the very beginning of the weekend, we tried to find the right rhythm, and I'm happy with the qualifying results. I would say that the 9th result is close to the limit of our current capabilities, especially since some of the competitors showed impressive pace.
However, we are focused on our own tasks, and I was pleased with the progress we showed from session to session. As a result, the car made a good impression, which allowed us to qualify for the finals.
As always, I want to achieve more, but there is a risk of rain during the race tomorrow. We're starting from a decent position and claiming points, so we'll do our best to get the season off to a good start."
Jack Duane (14th): "Not a bad day and a positive qualifying. We were unlucky at the end of the second session because of the yellow flags, but these things happen sometimes. Up to this point, we had shown a steady pace, and now we have to focus on those moments that we can influence, because in situations where everything depended only on us, we showed a good pace.
Between the third practice session and qualifying, we made adjustments to the settings, and I immediately felt more comfortable driving. Many thanks to the team, to all the employees who work at the bases in Enstone and Weary, because they worked hard so that we could reach the required level of speed.
Now we turn all our attention to preparing for tomorrow. Our goal is to make full use of all the opportunities, especially if they may appear due to weather conditions. Tactically, we must act clearly and thoughtfully – then we will have a chance to make our way forward.
I am looking forward to the upcoming race, because I will be able to gain new experience, try to reach the full potential of the car and enjoy the rest of the weekend."
