However, the fear of theft might hold you back. A GPS tracker can significantly help mitigate that risk. There are many options available, which is why I want to share my experience with the Monimoto 9, a model I’ve used for nearly a year.

      In summary, the Monimoto 9 is a standalone GPS tracker originally designed for motorcycles but suitable for tracking anything. The setup involves a tracker and a fob. You place the tracker in your vehicle and keep the fob in your pocket. If the tracker detects movement without the fob nearby, it sends an alert to your smartphone app and makes automated calls to a preset number every five minutes.

      The tracker is discreet and can be hidden easily. It comes with a reusable cable tie and is rated IP68, allowing for secure placement in a hidden spot. The fob is also small enough to carry in your pocket or on a keyring, though it’s advisable not to keep it on the vehicle's keyring. If a thief has both the vehicle and the fob, you might not realize they're missing until it's too late. Even with the active tracking feature, this could lead to a bad situation. On that note, the device supports global tracking with 4G connectivity. The Monimoto 9 is priced at $169.00 with a $49.99 annual subscription.

      Monimoto Tracker: I'm Concerned About Bumping My Car Without a Key

      Since the first review in July, the Monimoto 9 GPS tracker has remained in my Charger. I genuinely trust it to keep my car secure wherever I go. While it does have some drawbacks, its performance is exceptional—so much so that I find it a bit bothersome, which is actually a beneficial aspect for an emergency system.

      This device activates when it senses motion without the fob nearby, and it is surprising how small a bump can trigger it. It won’t alarm if a mouse climbs on the hood of your car, but I’ve experienced it notifying me multiple times when simply opening and closing the door. It can be quite irritating if you forget the fob while trying to retrieve something from your vehicle. Nonetheless, it’s reassuring to know how sensitive it is.

      Since most individuals ignore car alarms, this system provides a more reliable security solution. It doesn’t depend on bystanders; it directly informs you when something unusual occurs with your car. From there, you can access the app for the necessary details to monitor the situation.

      Battery life is also impressive for both the fob and the tracker. I had to replace the fob’s battery after it expired shortly after the previous review, but it has been functioning well ever since. Monimoto asserts that the tracker’s battery can last up to 12 months, and I believe that to be true. I did have to recharge it about a week before writing this, so it lasted roughly eight months, which is commendable considering the cold winters here in Pennsylvania.

      The main drawback of this tracker system is its cost. The $169.00 initial price and $50 annual subscription fee can be a bit steep. However, this is my only complaint after nearly a year of usage. It has proven its value, and I had no hesitations about renewing my subscription once the trial expired.

      Other GPS Trackers for Cars Worth Considering

      Overall, the Monimoto 9 is an excellent GPS tracker for car and motorcycle enthusiasts. While it isn’t flawless, it offers a great level of security at a relatively low cost. Some may argue it is too pricey, especially when considering the coverage provided by insurance policies, but for something irreplaceable due to sentimental reasons, like my Charger, it’s worth it.
