Valtteri Bottas was seen discussing with a representative from Formula 1's new team for 2026, Cadillac, in the Melbourne paddock. The Finnish driver is not walking away from his F1 career just yet, as he has signed on at 35 to be Mercedes' full-time reserve after losing his seat at Sauber. He is also addressing a reputation associated with his composed demeanor, as his former long-time sponsor Antti Aarnio-Wihuri recently remarked: "I can't help but question someone whose entire career relied on us, only for him to cut off all communication. We even facilitated his entry into Mercedes; he wouldn’t have reached that point without our support," added the billionaire. Bottas responded to these comments while in Melbourne, stating, "It felt a bit odd because I’ve always been thankful. I wouldn’t be where I am now without the partners who have supported me throughout my journey. I've been quite busy and haven’t seen Antti in several years. I should visit for a coffee next time." Regarding Cadillac, which may present Bottas' best shot at a race return next year, rumors in the paddock indicate that the GM-backed team had to pay a staggering $450 million 'anti-dilution' fee to satisfy F1's existing ten teams. "What happened is behind us now," commented Williams boss James Vowles, who has often criticized Cadillac and Andretti's entry into the sport, at Albert Park. "To clarify, the key distinction with Andretti is that GM and Cadillac are significant brands that bring considerable accolades, and I believe they will enhance the sport's position, attracting more sponsorship. The major effect will be felt in the job market," Vowles noted. "GM is excelling at attracting talent, and that’s likely a bigger concern than anything else."
