Piastri: I learned to ride like this on Clarkson's farm.
Oscar Piastri fought for victory with teammate Lando Norris in the Australian Grand Prix at home, but made a mistake on lap 43, flew off the track and got stuck in the wet grass. Oscar was able to get onto the asphalt in reverse, and after the finish he joked that his experience driving a tractor on Jeremy Clarkson's farm had helped him.
"I overdid my attempts," Oscar Piastri commented on his departure. – In such conditions, it is difficult to assess how slippery the track is. I believe that the condition of the asphalt changed noticeably with each lap. I saw the Landau go off the track in front of me, but since I was already in the corner, there was nothing I could do to slow down.
Once on the grass, you try to keep the car as straight as possible. But when I got stuck, I couldn't believe it had happened. But I can only blame myself for what happened.
I was trying to get back into the race and I put the car in reverse gear. At first I tried to drive ahead, but I couldn't. It's good that I spent some time at Jeremy Clarkson's farm in the offseason to learn how to ride a tractor in reverse. I think it came in handy today."
Oscar Piastri finished ninth, overtaking Lewis Hamilton on the last lap.
