Mercedes successfully challenged Antonelli's fine.
During the Melbourne race, Kimi Antonelli received a five-second penalty for the fact that Mercedes mechanics unsafe let him onto the track after a pit stop in front of Nico Hulkenberg. After applying the penalty, Kimi, who finished fourth, passed Alex Elbon ahead and dropped to fifth place.
Mercedes did not agree with the fine and appealed. The stewards reviewed the evidence and video recordings provided by the team and concluded that they were substantial and new, unavailable at the time of the decision.
After reviewing the records, the stewards concluded that Antonelli did not cross the line separating the work area near the pits from the pit lane until he was sure there was enough free space for Hulkenberg. At the same time, Kimi himself drove past the McLaren mechanics at a safe distance for them.
As a result, the stewards cancelled Antonelli's penalty, and the Mercedes debutant returned to fourth place. Two additional points allowed Mercedes to match McLaren in the Constructors' Cup.
