Leo Turini: Ferrari performed frankly poorly
In Australia, Ferrari clearly did not meet the expectations of its fans. Leo Turini, an experienced Italian motorsport journalist and a passionate fan of the Scuderia, did not hold back his emotions in assessing the performance of his favorite team at the first stage of the season.…
I want to make it easier for those who are always looking for excuses in everything, and there are such people.
I agree, it was only the very first race.
Yes, there are still 23 days left until the end of the season.
I do not dispute that last year we saw that it is still possible to win back.
And if it hadn't been for a mistake in choosing the moment for the last pit stop, Charles Leclair and Lewis Hamilton could have moved up to higher positions.
But I'm not going to do apologetics, but I'm going to call a spade a spade right away. Ferrari performed quite badly in Melbourne.
Leclair couldn't keep up with George Russell's pace, even though he was much slower than Max Verstappen and both McLaren drivers. Hamilton was stuck behind the Williams car for an eternity. And as if in mockery, we were also behind Sauber and Aston Martin, and this is generally a scandal.
No matter how you look at it, this approach is nothing short of a disaster.
There's still plenty of time to get rid of all the demons, but so far I'm not experiencing anything but severe depression. In Australia, the SF-25 machine did not perform in the best way. Point.
It was clearly seen that the racers were having constant difficulties in the process of piloting.
All winter long, the team has been delighting everyone with stories about how well everything is going – and now what? Let's hope that next year we will definitely start winning? Or can the Italian fans take comfort in the fact that Kimi Antonelli performed really well?
In any case, Lando Norris has only Verstappen to fear this season, and even then not so much.
In general, let's see how things will turn out in China, but so far the situation is as follows: if by the end of the 2024 championship we have almost caught up with McLaren – and that's exactly what happened! – it's really bad to start next season, it's no good. Moreover, the technical regulations have remained the same.
So far, my thoughts are like this. But let's hope for the best.
