Kevin Magnussen appears to be on the verge of a complete separation from his previous Formula 1 team, Haas.
Last year, when it became apparent that the small American team had different driver plans for 2025, team principal Ayao Komatsu expressed his desire for Magnussen to stay connected to Haas in another role.
There were speculations about an advisory or purely ambassadorial position, but Komatsu told France’s Auto Hebdo as recently as January, "He will participate in TPC (tests) and in the simulator."
However, the Danish newspaper Ekstra Bladet now reports that Magnussen’s deal with Haas is "hanging by a thread."
"Since Magnussen was let go last summer, team manager Ayao Komatsu has emphasized his wish to keep the 32-year-old Dane associated with Haas in the future.
"But now it seems to be leading nowhere," the article added.
Magnussen has transitioned from Formula 1 to sports car racing and currently holds a coveted works BMW seat. He acknowledged a few weeks ago, "I knew I wasn’t particularly eager to continue in Formula 1.
"I wasn’t really actively searching for another contract in Formula 1."
During Magnussen's latest race at Sebring over the weekend, he informed prominent sports car journalist Marshall Pruett that he is not interested in making a return to F1.
"There will always be rumors, and I think recently there have been some articles about that, but that’s normal in this environment," he stated.
"I’m very content here. It’s a golden era in sports car racing, so I’m very happy."
