Zhou: Shanghai requires masterfully precise piloting

Guanyu Zhou is not competing in Formula 1 this year, but he is acting as a reserve driver for Ferrari, and before the Chinese Grand Prix he answered three questions from the Italian team's press service.

Question: Tell us about the characteristics of the highway in Shanghai: what are the main requirements to take into account in order to show high speed there?Guanyu Zhou: One of the interesting facts about this circuit is that its configuration resembles the Chinese character from which the spelling of the city of Shanghai begins, which also denotes concepts such as "higher" or "climb".

The track is unique, its circle consists of a large number of "escorts" combined with medium-speed and fast turns. At the same time, the speeds there are incredibly high, and the Shanghai ring requires well-honed piloting techniques from the riders.

The track is really difficult, you need to show both racing skills and tactical ingenuity, so the races in Shanghai follow an exciting scenario.

Question: Why do you think China's interest in Formula 1 and the Ferrari team is so high and continues to grow?Guanyu Zhou: The popularity of Formula 1 and Ferrari has grown enormously – it's so exciting to see so many people becoming fans of the Scuderia. Ferrari has always held a special place in the hearts of motorsport fans, but now, against the backdrop of the growing worldwide popularity of Formula 1, it seems that the Italian team is attracting more and more attention.

The historical legacy of Ferrari, the passionate love for this brand and for this team are quickly finding a response in the hearts of new fans.

Q: How are your first weeks on the team going?Guanyu Zhou: I'm incredibly happy to be back at Maranello, because I studied at the Ferrari Racing Academy when I competed in the youth series. Now I'm back in the team as a reserve rider, and it makes me feel special.

I always feel at home at Scuderia, and my new role gives me the opportunity to contribute to the work of the team and at the same time improve my professional skills. This is a great opportunity, and I'm grateful that I got it.
