Hulkenberg: In the second attempt, we failed to add
Gabriel Bortoleto's fourteenth time was Sauber's best result in qualifying for the Chinese Grand Prix sprint. His teammate Nico Hulkenberg qualified nineteenth and finished the fight in the first session.
Gabriel Bortoleto (14th): "An encouraging start to the weekend and, overall, solid qualifying for the sprint. The first session went well, and I did my best in the second, but it was difficult to close the gap by six tenths to reach the finals. Nevertheless, I am happy with the result.
Gusty winds made the task difficult at times, but I am pleased with the progress made during the day. Now we need to focus on tomorrow, first on the sprint and then on the main qualification. We will continue to attack to make the most of every opportunity."
Nico Hulkenberg (19th): "Unfortunately, qualifying was short for me. The first fast lap looked promising, but in the second attempt many riders were able to improve, but we did not. We will have to study the telemetry to understand what went wrong and how more can be achieved.
My lap looked quite competitive in practice this morning, but for some reason I couldn't repeat that speed in qualifying."
