Lewis Hamilton: I can't believe we won pole!
Last year in China, Lewis Hamilton started from the front row in the sprint, and in 2025, becoming a Ferrari driver, he rose one place higher, winning pole in the first qualifying weekend. Charles Leclair showed the fourth result, losing to his teammate by a little more than two tenths.
Lewis Hamilton (1st): "I didn't expect this result, but I'm very happy and proud! Of course, the previous race was very unfortunate, because we knew for sure that the car had potential, but we couldn't unleash it.
But now we're here in Shanghai, and it's a wonderful city, and I love this track. The weather is also very good, and our car went fast from the very first lap. We made the right adjustments to the settings, and the team did a great job in preparing the SF-25 for this qualification.
Still, I'm kind of shocked, I can't believe we won the pole! Although this is not the main race of the weekend, we have secured a very favorable position for ourselves before the sprint.
I don't know how I did it yet, I'll need to analyze the telemetry, but I drove the first sector very well: I think that's where I made the main improvements. In general, I gradually increased throughout the lap.
But we can add more, and I will try to do it in the next qualification. I was very happy when I stopped the car and saw the number 1 plate in front of me – it's incredibly cool to achieve this behind the wheel of a Ferrari."
Charles Leclair (4th): "I had difficulties, from the very beginning it seemed to me that I was one step behind Lewis – he was just faster today. The hardest part was going through the first three turns of the lap, and it was about the same last year.
It's a pity that this happened, but besides that, it should be emphasized that the qualifying results are quite solid. We're starting the sprint from 4th position, which is not encouraging, but Lewis has won the pole, so let's hope that together we can have a good race tomorrow.
It was very difficult to put everything together and set up the car correctly, although we were already doing better in qualifying than in training. However, we are not in the positions we would like to be in, so we will have to work hard in preparation for tomorrow's qualification.
However, the race is a completely different story, but we won't know what it will be like until tomorrow. However, I foresee that we will have problems with the tires during the sprint."
