Some interesting statistics on the results of the Chinese Grand Prix…

      Qualification

Oscar Piastri won qualifying in Shanghai for the first time in his career, becoming the 107th driver to earn a pole in Formula 1 and the fifth Australian on the list after Jack Brabham, Alan Jones, Mark Webber and Daniel Ricciardo.

George Russell qualified second, which is his best starting position in Shanghai. The Mercedes driver started from the front row for the fourth time in the last six races.

Lando Norris lost to his teammate in qualifying for the first time in the last nine Grands Prix, starting third.

Charles Leclair started sixth for the second year in a row.

Isaac Hajjar became the best of the newcomers, the seventh time is the best qualification of the "subsidiary" Red Bull team in Shanghai in the last 12 years.

Alex Elbon's tenth place is Williams' highest starting position in China since 2017.

Liam Lawson was the slowest in both the sprint and main race qualifiers.

      Race

Oscar Piastri won the Chinese Grand Prix for the third time in his career. George Russell, Giancarlo Fisichella, Johnny Herbert, Heinz-Harald Frentzen, Thierry Boutsen, Didier Pironi, Phil Hill, Peter Collins and Mike Hawthorne have the same number of wins.

Piastri scored points for the 28th consecutive race weekend, the longest of the ongoing series and the fourth in history (after Hamilton (33 consecutive races): Japan'16 - France’18, Verstappen (43): Emilia-Romagna’22 - Saudi Arabia ’24) and Hamilton (48): Great Britain’18 - Bahrain’20.

Piastri's teammate Lando Norris finished second in Shanghai for the second year in a row. Together they brought McLaren the 50th anniversary victory double in history.

George Russell finished third and brought Mercedes the 300th podium in history.

Max Verstappen's fourth place is a repeat of his 2019 result. For the third time on this track, he finished in the same position from which he started.

Esteban Ocon's fifth place is the best result of Haas F1 in Shanghai.

Kimi Antonelli, driving a Mercedes, finished sixth, while the Italian is earning points in all his races.

Alex Albon, who finished seventh, became the ninth driver in Formula 1 history to lead the race on his birthday. The last time a Williams driver took the lead in a race was almost ten years ago – Felipe Massa and Valtteri Bottas took the lead at Silverstone in 2015.

Fernando Alonso retired from the race due to brake problems on an Aston Martin and remained the only driver who never finished in the 2025 season.

For the first time in the history of Ferrari's Formula 1 performances, two of the team's cars were disqualified in the same race.

The Chinese Grand Prix was the first race since Canada’04 where more than two cars were disqualified. In that race, four cars were disqualified – Williams and Toyota for non-compliance with the regulations of the brake cooling ducts, and the last race in which exactly three cars were disqualified was Canada’89, where black flags were shown to Stefan Johansson, Nigel Mansell and Alessandro Nannini.
