Carlos Sainz: It takes time to feel the car
Williams is the fifth Formula 1 team represented by Carlos Sainz. He knows how to adapt to new cars and knows that it takes time.…
Carlos Sainz: "During the Bahrain tests, it became clear that I can immediately show good time in this car. Now I need to refine it in order to achieve the maximum in any type of turns, attacking the way I'm used to.
It takes a year to get to know a car to the point where you can attack with your eyes closed. To drive at the level I imagine, you need to run from five to ten races, driving on different types of tracks, with different configurations, surfaces, levels of grip and downforce.
Each car requires a unique approach, it takes time to feel it. At Ferrari, I couldn't handle the 2022 car, but then I was fast with the 2023 and 2024 cars. Each car has its own characteristics. That was the case at Renault and McLaren. That's the way it is now at Williams. The GPS clearly shows where I am inferior. If I can take a step in the right direction in the upcoming series of three races in a row, then I'm on the right track."
