Lewis Hamilton: "Most people outside of boxing have a completely erroneous opinion of what we actually do. When we talk about settings and changes, all these different graphs that you see relate to aerodynamics, cornering balance, mechanical balance – a lot of variables that we are trying to figure out over the course of the weekend.
I didn't feel the car very well in the first stage, but the pace was good for the first two days, and on Sunday I drove this car in the rain for the first time and learned a lot.
All the other riders conducted tests in Abu Dhabi last winter, where they tested the 2025 tires. I didn't have that opportunity, and the car broke down during the tests in Bahrain. In Shanghai, in the sprint, I did 20 laps in a row for the first time, and in the race I tried out the C2 for the first time, so I was just learning.
At the last stage, on the Saturday before qualifying, I made the wrong decision about the settings, which I had to ride to the end of the race. If we had just left the settings after the sprint or made progress, we could have qualified in the top three and expected a completely different result.
I definitely started feeling the effects of not racing at the end of last year, and I'm quite happy with how I've adapted to these two races. But there's a lot of work ahead to make things better in the future."
