Doohan is "uncertain" about attending the next grand prix.

"Then Doohan entered and made that significant error."

The pressure weighing on Jack Doohan continues to mount as new footage surfaces showing Franco Colapinto conducting a 'TPC' test with Alpine at Monza. Currently on loan from Williams, the prominent reserve driver did not make the trip to Japan, and it's now evident why—he was engaged in simulator duties at the factory during the Suzuka race weekend before traveling to Italy to drive the 2023 Alpine. Many believe that fellow rookie Doohan, who had a dramatic crash during practice in Suzuka while attempting to navigate turn 1 with DRS open, is only under a 6-race contract. Former F1 driver Ralf Schumacher speculates that the Australian might not even last that long. Commenting on the mounting speculation that Colapinto, 21, will soon take Doohan's seat, Schumacher told Sky Deutschland: "It’s being influenced by his own team and his driving.

"He (Doohan) is making numerous mistakes and isn't fast enough. We witnessed Ryo Hirakawa driving that car in the first practice session and being right in line with Pierre Gasly. Then, Doohan got in and made that significant error. Currently, he's struggling to handle the situation. I'm interested to see how it unfolds, but his participation in the next race isn't guaranteed."

These rumors have been largely fueled by Alpine advisor Flavio Briatore, while team principal Oliver Oakes has attempted to downplay the situation. "He’s staying," he stated when questioned about Doohan. "It’s a definite yes. He’s with us. There’s considerable pressure on him, but he’s managing it well. My message is to give him space."

As for Colapinto, he acknowledges that he is vying for a race seat with Alpine. "I’m an Alpine driver," he mentioned on the Nude Project podcast. "I have a contract with them. I’m working hard and hoping for an opportunity with this team. They made an effort to bring me on board."
