McLaren hypercars will make their WEC debut in 2027

McLaren Racing has officially announced that they will return to the top league of endurance racing in 2027 with a factory project. A silhouette of the future hypercar has appeared on the British team's social media pages, and a full presentation is expected to take place in mid-June before the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

Rumors that Woking was preparing for such a step had been circulating for a long time, and by the end of last year, reports appeared in the motorsport press that a fundamental decision had already been made, and McLaren, joining forces with Dallara, was starting to develop its own LMDh class sports car.

Last February, Zach Brown, executive director of McLaren Racing, hinted during the first stage of the WEC season in Qatar: "We can say that returning to LMGT3 was just a trial balloon for us, it's a wonderful category, but, of course, it would be nice to see a couple more McLaren cars on the very first lines of the protocol.

The Le Mans Marathon is a must-see event. It's a shame that this year it coincides with the Formula 1 race in Montreal. But I can promise that this year I will be in France, not Canada, because this is a priority for us..."

In 2025, it will be exactly 30 years since the famous victory at Le Mans, which was won by the crew in the McLaren F1 GTR sports car in the absolute standings.

Today, the McLaren press service released an extremely short message, designed in a telegraphic style, and its full text looks like this:

"1995. The legendary victory at Le Mans. Glory to the owners of the Triple Crown.

We are ready to once again distinguish ourselves on the world stage of endurance racing. Hypercar. The 2027 World Endurance Racing Championship.

"We're coming back," said Zach Brown, chief executive of McLaren Racing.
