Mercedes drivers will lose one position at the start.

During the red flag stop of qualifying, the Mercedes drivers entered the pit lane before receiving the restart time signal, violating the rules, for which they were called to the stewards. This was the first time such a violation had occurred, and after reviewing the circumstances, the stewards limited themselves to a fine with the loss of one position at the start of tomorrow's race for Russell and Antonelli.

In the stewards' room, Mercedes representative Andrew Shovlin argued that the riders had not received a sporting advantage and in this case they could limit themselves to a fine, which the stewards did not agree with.

It was decided to use a sports fine so as not to set a precedent and the teams would not act the same way in the future, knowing that everything would be limited to a fine. Such a small penalty, the loss of one position at the start, is explained by the fact that the stewards considered the violation to be unintentional and due to a mistake by the team.

The stewards warned that a more serious fine could be imposed in the future for such a violation.
