Andrea Stella: Lando is not to blame for the accident
McLaren team principal Andrea Stella claims it took Lando Norris just five minutes to forget about the crash in qualifying and switch to race preparation.…
Andrea Stella: "When an incident occurs in qualifying, it's always a shame, because Lando could be in the front row, but in the end he starts tenth. But these guys are racers. They've been doing this all their lives. This is not the only bad Saturday in his career. The racers take it calmly.
At the briefing, we immediately switched to choosing tires for the race. We used this disappointment for additional motivation. When you work in sports, when you are an athlete or an engineer, you are well prepared for such situations, and if those five minutes of frustration arise, you know how to transform them. That's exactly what I saw with Lando and the team.
Lando is not to blame for the accident. We conducted an analysis and saw that when Lando tried to squeeze a few more milliseconds out of the car, it did not react the way he expected. The car lost control in the fourth turn and ended up in the outer radius, and this turn does not forgive such a thing.
The team needs to improve the car, correct its behavior – we want Lando to be confident, feel comfortable, be able to trust the car, and when he needs to find a few milliseconds, he can do it."
