WEC: The Ferrari team won the "6 hours of Imola"
The Ferrari factory team scored its second consecutive victory at the World Endurance Championship, winning the 6 Hours of Imola on Sunday.
On the Italian team's home track, the Ferrari AF Corse crew, riding a 499P hypercar with tail number 51, started from pole position and, to the delight of their fans, were the first to cross the finish line almost eight and a half seconds earlier than the rivals from the BMW M Team.
Thus, the trio of Alessandro Pierre Guidi, James Calado and Antonio Giovinazzi consolidated their leading positions in the championship – at the first stage of the season in Qatar, this crew took 3rd place.
"It was a great weekend! – joyfully commented Giovinazzi, a former Formula 1 racer who still works with Scuderia as a backup driver. – Since Friday, we have been ahead of the curve all the time. During the race, yellow flags appeared on the track more than once and a safety car drove out, so it was not easy to control its progress, but the team did a great job, we made the right decisions, and the car worked perfectly."
BMW drivers Rene Rust, Robin Frijns and Sheldon van der Linde finished second in Imola, while Alpine team Jules Gounon, Frederic Makoweki and Mick Schumacher took the third step of the podium.
