Mario Isola: Tire performance met expectations
Pirelli is happy with the performance of the tires in the hot conditions of Jeddah…
Mario Isola, Pirelli: "The performance of the tyres and the race strategy were in line with our expectations. Despite the use of softer compounds than last year and an average of 7°C higher track temperature, degradation of the C3 and C4 tires was minimal. As a result, given the shape of the teams, this outcome of the race was natural.
We saw only a few cases of the left front wheel bubbling, but it wasn't enough to significantly affect the behavior of the tires. As for overheating, there were difficulties on some cars, but this was to be expected at such a high temperature and on a track where the tires do not have the opportunity to cool down.
There is a short pause ahead, an opportunity to take a deep breath before heading to another continent, to the USA, for the Miami Grand Prix. On a track whose characteristics are very different from this one, we will provide the teams with the same lineups as in Jeddah, and they will again be one step softer than a year ago. It will be interesting to see how the teams handle this, especially since we will have a second weekend with a Saturday sprint this year."
