Zach Brown invites Alonso to return to McLaren
Two weeks ago, McLaren Racing officially announced its return to the FIA WEC in 2027 with a factory project. The team, together with Dallara, will develop its own LMDh class sports car. Other details of the project should be announced during the official presentation, which is expected to take place in June.
McLaren Racing CEO Zach Brown has already stated that he would like to see Fernando Alonso, who played for McLaren in Formula 1 for five seasons, won Le Mans twice and became the WEC champion with Toyota, at the wheel of the crew.
Zach Brown: "Fernando Alonso is one of the best drivers. I know this because he worked with us. He is an incredible athlete, but soon his days in Formula 1 will come to an end.
We recently announced our return to Le Mans, and he has already won this race. I would like to see him return to McLaren."
Alonso's current contract with Aston Martin expires at the end of 2026. At the last stage in Jeddah, Fernando said that he was not going to retire prematurely and wanted to spend the next season. Even before that, the Spanish racer had assured that he would remain at Aston Martin after completing his sporting career.
