The chief sponsor believes that Perez might make a comeback to F1.

"It will depend on his level of enthusiasm for a project."

A prominent billionaire, who is known for being Sergio Perez's main supporter in Formula 1, believes that the dismissed Red Bull driver might make a comeback. Carlos Slim, a member of the richest family in Latin America, stated, "I think it somewhat hinges on him – what he wants to pursue and what options are available to him."

At 35, Perez is currently at home with his young family but has been strongly associated with the new Cadillac F1 team for the 2026 season, backed by Telmex. Slim remarked on the After Lap podcast, "A driver like Checo, who has done so much in his extensive career, will aim for something that excites him and presents a challenge at the right moment."

A hopeful indicator for Perez, whose contract with Red Bull was terminated at an estimated cost of around $20 million to the team, is that Mexico is likely to stay on the F1 calendar. Recently, Clara Brugada, the head of the Mexico City government, announced that an agreement with F1 would be signed shortly.

Regarding Perez, Slim believes that while the six-time grand prix winner is relishing his time off with family, "He can also focus on his professional matters." When asked again about Perez's prospects of returning to F1, the billionaire added, "I think it will depend on his enthusiasm for a future project. I believe it will be more about the specific offers he receives."
