Carlos Sainz is not surprised by Hamilton's lag behind Leclair
Carlos Sainz and Lewis Hamilton, who have changed teams this season, are still behind their new teammates Alex Albon and Charles Leclair. In Miami, the Williams driver revealed that his own problems and the problems Hamilton faced at Ferrari were expected.
Carlos Sainz: "I'm not surprised that this is happening at all. I expected to have problems, and I expected Lewis to have problems. There is no secret about this, it is a feature of sports.
Our teammates, Alex and Charles, know their teams well from the inside. They are already making the most of the car, and the only thing that can be done is to reach their level or drive a little better. It's impossible to suddenly start outperforming them by two or three tenths, because they are already piloting at the limit of the car's capabilities.
When you join a new team, you and everyone around you expect you to go straight to the level of a teammate, but it takes time. There are no secrets – they just know the team better. The sooner you make progress, the sooner you'll reach their level.
Some riders take less time to get used to it, while others take longer. Lewis had an amazing weekend in China, but now he has more problems. It's going to take time for both him and me to figure it out."
