After gaining control of Formula 1, Liberty Media immediately started talking about increasing the number of American stages. In 2016, CEO Greg Maffey outlined new goals - monetization of digital broadcasts, calendar expansion, and long–term contracts to host races in Miami and Las Vegas. All three points are fulfilled.
Miami is the largest metropolis in the southeastern United States and one of the most important financial centers. It was important for Liberty Media to hold this Grand Prix, the organization of which was accompanied by many lawsuits from the local community against the organizers.
At first, it was planned to hold a street race in Miami, the parties regularly sat down at the negotiating table and disagreed with nothing. As a result, the construction of the highway in the harbor was abandoned. In the fall of 2019, a new project for the construction of a highway around the Hard Rock Stadium appeared, independent of the city authorities. Stadium owner Stephen Ross funded the construction and costs of the race.
The track was placed on the territory of the stadium, and the schedule of races was limited so as not to interfere with local schoolchildren and students. That's what we agreed on. On April 18, 2021, a ten-year contract was signed.
The final version is similar to Albert Park in Melbourne or Sochi Autodrom. The Miami circuit is temporary and is also built in a limited area where it is impossible to accommodate a large stationary circuit.
Route features
Miami International Autodrome. The length of the highway is 5.41 kilometers. 19 turns (12 left and seven right), three straights and three DRS zones. The maximum design speed is 320 km/h. The project includes three points where overtaking is possible – in the 1st, 11th and 17th turns.
There is a height difference between turns 13 and 16, where the track descends and rises, passing under the overpasses. As conceived by the configuration authors from Apex Circuit Design, there is an "error generator" consisting of several blind turns in a row.
There are profiled sections on the track that require soft suspension settings, as well as really high-speed ones, where a rigid suspension will allow you to get the most out of the aerodynamics. In addition, it is important to ensure effective acceleration in areas where slow turns turn into long straights.
The high-speed track requires a low level of downforce and high engine power. The load on the brakes is average, and the three serious braking zones are connected by medium-speed sections where the brakes will have time to cool down.

Sets of tires issued to teams for the weekend
For Miami, Pirelli chose a step softer compositions than a year ago – C3, C4 and C5 in the role of Hard, Medium and Soft. The same trains were used two weeks ago in Jeddah.
Mario Isola: "In 2025, we have a wider choice compared to last year. The difference between the squads is more noticeable in terms of speed, but they are less overheated and granular, which will allow the teams to expand their strategy options."
