Bortoleto: We managed to show our real pace.
Of the Sauber drivers, only Gabriel Bortoleto qualified for the second part of qualifying, while Nico Hulkenberg dropped out of further competition in the first session, after which he admitted that he performed worse than his own expectations.
Nico Hulkenberg (16th): "Saturday was not the best, although our results in yesterday's qualifying for the sprint were encouraging. But in the sprint itself and in the main qualifying of the weekend, I performed worse than my own expectations.
In the short race on Saturday, I lost a few positions on the first lap, and it's very difficult to win back on such a short distance. Although after several riders were fined, I moved up to 9th position.
In today's qualifying, I had the opportunity to go into the second session, but on my last fastest lap at the entrance to turn 1, the rear of the car behaved somewhat unstably, which caused me to lose from two to three tenths.
I tried to win them back in the last sector of the lap, but unfortunately I didn't succeed. However, we only need to look ahead, so now we will prepare for the race."
Gabriel Bortoleto (13th): "I am really happy to have qualified for the second part of qualifying again after several difficult stages of the season where I was unable to fully demonstrate our potential. Nevertheless, there are small reasons for frustration, because I believe that we had a chance to rise to higher positions – perhaps even to qualify for the finals.
We feel like we've taken a step forward – the team did a great job with the car, I felt comfortable driving, and as qualifying progressed, with each successive race, I drove more confidently.
I probably did my best lap since the start of the weekend on my second attempt in the first session - the car behaved perfectly. I made a small mistake in the final attempt, but no one can complete an absolutely perfect lap on this track.
Overall, we did a good job. More importantly, during qualifying, it seemed to me that we were able to put everything together and show the real pace that we are capable of. We haven't been able to do this consistently over the course of the season so far.
But now we need to focus on the tasks that we have to solve tomorrow. I'm starting from 13th position, but since there's a chance of rain, there may be surprises. In general, tomorrow we will give our best, and our goal is to show a good result."
