Carlos Sainz: We are only three tenths behind the leaders

In Miami, Carlos Sainz achieved his best qualifying result with Williams, clocking sixth. The Spanish driver lost only to rivals from Red Bull, McLaren and Mercedes, and beat both drivers of his former Ferrari team. After the session, Carlos stated that the sixth place reflected the limit of the car's capabilities.

His teammate Alex Albon confirmed Williams' speed on the Miami circuit by clocking seventh.

Carlos Sainz (6th): "I don't think I could have gone faster. It was my best lap in Williams. I had a good qualifying time in Bahrain and Jeddah, but it was probably this session in Miami that turned out to be my best performance. It all came down to putting all the components together and drawing conclusions from the experience gained. As a result, I was only three tenths short of the pole position.

We have made mistakes in the past, both on the part of the team and the drivers. We said that we need to put them in the past and reboot. As soon as we did that, we were able to qualify sixth. A great result for the team – I have a very good starting position.

On the other hand, I am disappointed because we are only three tenths behind the leaders, but this is the maximum we can count on in 2025. Depending on the track, we will continue to perform a little better or a little worse, but at the moment that's our position."

Alex Albon (7th): "It was a disappointing day. It was difficult to prepare for qualifying immediately after receiving the penalty as a result of a really strong performance in the sprint. You try to shake yourself off and continue, but it's difficult. However, I did it! I coped with the challenge and am happy with the seventh place. Both of our cars reached the final, which is a great result for the team.

We have a very high pace, which will help in the race. We have to work hard on Sunday, but we just need to run a clean race."
