Colapinto will replace Duane in Alpine F1
12 hours after Alpine announced the departure of Oliver Oakes from the post of team leader, now led by Flavio Briatore, the team officially confirmed the replacement of the pilots.
Franco Colapinto will be Pierre Gasly's team–mate in the next five stages, from Imola to Austria. Before Silverstone, the team will assess the situation again. Jack Duane will remain a part of the team, becoming the first reserve pilot.
Franco will be performing at number #43.
Flavio Briatore, advisor and team principal: "After analyzing the first races of the season, we decided to put Franco behind the wheel of the second car next to Pierre for the next five races.
Considering that the strength of the drivers is close this year, and the car is competitive, and the team has improved significantly over the past 12 months, we see the need for a rotation of the squad. We know that the 2026 season is particularly important for the team, and a full assessment of the drivers this season will allow us to maximize our ambitions next year.
We continue to support Jack, and he has been very professional this season. The next five races will give us the opportunity to try something different, and after that we'll evaluate our options."
Franco Colapinto: "First of all, I want to thank the team for the opportunity to participate in the next five races. I have been working hard with Alpine to prepare for the next stage in Imola and the upcoming series, which, there is no doubt, will be intense and will be a great challenge for everyone.
I stayed fit and ready to drive thanks to participating in the tests organized by the team and working on the simulator at Enstone. I will do my best to get up to speed quickly and give my all to show the best possible results together with Pierre."
Jack Duane: "I am very proud to have fulfilled my long-held dream of becoming a professional Formula 1 racer. I will always be grateful to the team for helping me achieve this dream.
Of course, this last chapter is not easy for me, because as a professional racer, I want to race. Nevertheless, I appreciate the trust and support provided by the team. We have long-term goals with them, and I will continue to do my best to help them achieve them.
I will continue to work hard, follow the next five races with interest, and continue to move towards achieving my personal goals."
