Carlos Sainz Sr. is considering the possibility of participating in the next FIA presidential election to compete with the current head of the federation, Mohammed bin Sulayem.
According to British Autosport, citing sources from the entourage of the former world rally champion and Dakar winner, several key figures from the world of motorsport suggested that Sainz Sr. run for president. The same sources report that the Williams racing driver's father is seriously considering the possibility of speaking out against Ben Sulayem, whose tenure as president of the FIA is regularly accompanied by various scandals.
If Carlos Sainz Sr. decides to nominate his candidacy, it will mean "presenting a positive and constructive program" so that the FIA delegates have another option in the presidential election.
The FIA presidential election is due to take place at the end of 2025, but the exact date has not yet been set.
