Formula 1 revenue dropped to $400 million
Liberty Media, which owns Formula 1, has published a financial report on the results of the first quarter of 2025.
Compared to the same period last year, Formula 1 revenue decreased by $150 million (27%) to $403 million. Formula 1's operating income decreased from $202 million to $73 million in the first quarter of 2025.
This is mainly due to fewer races compared to the previous year. If three races were held in the first quarter of 2024, then only two in 2025, and the stage in China was less profitable than the Middle Eastern stages in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia. However, now these two races fall in the second quarter, which includes one more race than in 2024, so the situation should even out.
"Formula 1's core revenue decreased in the first quarter: revenues from the sale of media stations, racing events and sponsorship decreased due to differences in the calendar compared to last year.
Revenue from racing events decreased as there were one fewer race held in the quarter and they were held at other tracks. The decrease in income from media channels and sponsorship is also due to the absence of one race in the current period, which led to a decrease in the share of seasonal income. In addition, sponsorship revenue decreased due to the impact of a different combination of races on revenue from specific events," Liberty Media said in a statement.
