Sainz Sr.: Carlos made the right choice

Since this year, Carlos Sainz has been driving for Williams, and it is quite expected that at first he had difficulties adapting to an unfamiliar car, and he did not hide it. It seems that the main problems are now over, although after six stages the Spanish rider has almost five times fewer points than Alex Elbon, his team-mate.

Carlos Sainz Sr., in an interview with the Madrid newspaper Marca, was optimistic about his son's progress, and believes that this is a sign that the choice in favor of Williams was the right one.

"I think it was the right choice," said the two–time world rally champion and four-time winner of the Dakar Super Marathon. – After all, if last year Williams took the penultimate place in the Constructors' Cup, now Carlos has already achieved the 6th result in qualifying (in Miami), and Alex Albon finished fifth in the race.

Carlos had problems, and he took 9th place, although, as far as I understand, the bottom of his car was damaged, because of this, the downforce level noticeably decreased. But we must admit that some kind of revelation awaited him at the beginning of the year, and now we are sure that he made the right choice.

Of course, everyone is already looking forward to 2026 – however, when such a radical change in technical regulations takes place, and this applies to both the engine and the chassis, things can develop in different ways. Let's see who will be able to interpret the new regulations more correctly, and who will not succeed. But it will be very difficult to make any predictions before the first race of next season."

When Sainz Sr. was asked about the difficulties that Fernando Alonso faced this year, as the Aston Martin car turned out to be frankly uncompetitive, he replied: "I have no doubt that Fernando expected the team to take a step forward, although the situation may change at any moment, because in modern Formula 1 the difference between the leaders and those those who are in the last places are minimal, so any measures (to modernize the car) can make it possible to achieve improvements."
