Formula 1 celebrates its 75th anniversary!

On May 13, 1950, at 1 p.m. in British Silverstone, the first Formula 1 race was launched. The season of the very first World Championship consisted of seven stages, and it was the beginning of a glorious 75th anniversary full of excitement, drama and innovation, and now Formula 1 has become the truly global phenomenon as we know it..

In commemoration of the 75th anniversary of this historic event, Formula 1 has released color-restored photographic materials telling about the events of that race.

A team of experts worked with the 75-year-old newsreel that captured the victory of Italian racing driver Giuseppe "Nino" Farina at the wheel of an Alfa Romeo, using modern methods of colorization, and now you can look at these pictures in a new way. Farina became the first world champion that year, and this will forever remain a special achievement in the history of Formula 1.

Software based on artificial intelligence technologies was used to work with archival photographic materials, but they were partially restored manually, since it was necessary to carefully reproduce the natural color scheme of each scene.

The photos presented today are just part of the day's program: you can also watch seven classic Formula 1 races from different eras on YouTube; stories dedicated to the memories of the leaders and drivers of the teams competing in the World Championship these days, and much more.

Stefano Domenicali, President and CEO of Formula 1: "On this day 75 years ago, our sport burst into life, and we are honored to continue this incredibly rich legacy.

It was created by brave racers who fought for victory on this day in 1950. It is very interesting to get acquainted with the color version of archival photographic materials – their creation has become a wonderful way to celebrate this historical event.

Today we pay tribute to those who worked in Formula 1 before us: these are the drivers, engineers, team owners, fans, without whom we would not have become who we are today.

For 75 years, Formula 1 has been promoting innovation and progress, impressing fans with examples of human capabilities, endurance and speed, but this will continue to be the case. Our sport has incredible prospects for the next 75 years and for the more distant future. Just go ahead!"
