"On Friday, I will bring lasagna for everyone."

Kimi Antonelli hasn't completely dismissed the idea of one day following in Lewis Hamilton’s footsteps by trading in his silver overalls for red ones. The 18-year-old is a protégé of Mercedes chief and co-owner Toto Wolff, and as he prepares for his first home grand prix in Imola this weekend, Antonelli expresses no regrets about driving a silver car instead of a red one.

"As a child, like anyone else, I was a Ferrari fan," the Italian shared with Corriere della Sera. "But when Toto reached out, my family and I felt that such an opportunity doesn't come often."

Some people, however, express disappointment that a dream partnership between an Italian driver and Ferrari didn’t happen. "I just regret seeing him in a Mercedes," former Ferrari president Luca di Montezemolo commented recently.

Nonetheless, Antonelli will bring a touch of Italy to the predominantly Anglo-German Mercedes team at Imola, which is near his hometown of Bologna, this weekend.

"Bono," he said, referring to his well-known race engineer Peter Bonnington, "only eats curry every day. My task will be to add a little Italian flavor."

"I've decided that on Friday I will bring lasagna for everyone. There will be around 100 dishes," Antonelli smiled. "It won't be easy to transport them, but I will manage."

Regarding those who believe he should have turned down Wolff’s offer in hopes of an invitation from Ferrari, the young driver is firm.

"When you’re very young, everyone has advice and critiques," he remarked. "I should have realized that you shouldn't heed everyone's opinions."

However, he isn’t completely dismissing the possibility of moving to Maranello in the future.

"Currently, we are very pleased with our decision," the teenager stated. "In the future, never say never."
