Key Ferrari update will have to be delayed until Spain - report
While many leading teams are set to reveal significant car upgrades at Imola, Ferrari's substantial development package might not be ready until Barcelona. The Italian team's 2025 season has been underwhelming thus far, highlighted by Lewis Hamilton's outburst on the radio during the recent Miami race. His follow-up remarks to the media were also concerning, as "such behavior naturally strains relationships."
Nevertheless, team principal Frederic Vasseur continues to downplay each controversy, including the recent issues surrounding Charles Leclerc and his frustrations. "I completely understand the frustration," Vasseur remarked. "They are champions, and they want to win."
Regarding Hamilton, a seven-time world champion, Vasseur stated: "I don’t mind Lewis speaking to the media. What's crucial is that there are no misunderstandings within the team. He can trust me, and I can trust him—just like with Charles. We had a discussion, and afterwards, everything calmed down significantly," the Frenchman pointed out.
However, the frustration may linger for at least the next two races, as the 2025 Ferrari package will remain largely unchanged in both Imola and Monaco the following weekend. According to Sky Italia, after six races this season, Ferrari has at least pinpointed their primary weakness: "The limitations of the rear of the car."
Moreover, "The potential and hidden load that Vasseur has mentioned for some time has yet to materialize. For this reason, adjustments were necessary, and the development program has been altered." Sky Italia adds that at Imola, Ferrari will not present major updates, unlike competitors such as Red Bull and Mercedes, who will introduce new features, but instead will include only minor, discreet details.
As is the case for all teams in Spain, they will also need to adapt their front wing to comply with the new FIA regulations. Meanwhile, in Maranello, efforts are underway to develop a revised rear suspension.
