Max Verstappen: C6 is too soft for Imola
Max Verstappen qualified second in Imola, 0.034 seconds behind pole holder Oscar Piastri. After the session, the reigning world champion said that the new composition of the C6 tires was too soft for this track.
His teammate Yuki Tsunoda crashed his car in the first qualifying session before he could show the time. The decision on Yuki's admission to the start of the race will be made by the stewards.
Max Verstappen (2nd): "Everything worked out really well, but the softest compound is very difficult to maintain throughout the lap. I had a good first sector, but then the tires gradually began to lose efficiency.
The line-up is good, but you saw that George Russell showed his lap on Medium. Perhaps the C6 is too soft a compound for this route. At least in our case, it was difficult to get the most out of them. I was much more comfortable on Medium.
The race is only tomorrow, and points are awarded based on the results of the race, so let's focus on it. But I think everything turned out very well for us today.
Fighting for victory? We didn't manage to compete in the last race, but I hope that our pace will be a little higher here. The car has become more stable, and I hope that this will make it possible to work more efficiently with the tires."
