Pirelli: Hard tires will play a key role in the race
On Friday, Imola hosted the official debut of the C6 tires, the softest in the 2025 lineup. The teams actively worked with Medium and Soft, but left Hard for the race.…
Simone Berra: "The debut of the C6 line-up aroused great interest among us, as well as among the teams and riders. Such soft tires have never been used on these machines.
At first glance, the impressions are positive. The C6 tires are great for qualifying, allowing riders to attack the entire lap without reducing efficiency in the last sector. Moreover, with careful cooling control, they are able to complete a second fastest lap. In the first practice session, the riders drove several laps on Soft without any signs of granulation.
In the second practice session, all the teams ran long runs on Medium tires, which showed a relatively low level of degradation.
Given that the asphalt will be covered with used rubber and tires will wear out less and less during the weekend, the forecast does not promise heat on Sunday, and the pit lane in Imola is the longest on the calendar, the teams will try to limit themselves to one pit stop.
It is no coincidence that no one used Hard tires on Friday, clearly preferring to leave an additional set for Sunday in order to be ready for the departure of the safety car, which often happens in Imola.
Theoretically, we cannot rule out the possibility of two pit stops, but the teams and the drivers know how to manage the tires, and given that the loss of time in the pit lane here is 27 seconds, this is unlikely."
