Pierre Gasly: Now we are in the role of laggards
Alpine riders Pierre Gasly and Franco Colapinto clocked the seventeenth and twentieth time respectively in the second session of the free races. The team called such results a consequence of the lack of speed of the car.
Pierre Gasly (17th): "It's great to be back in Monaco for one of the highlights of the season. I like driving on this track.
For us, the first training session was much better than the second. I found the right rhythm from the very beginning and finished the session with the eighth result. Apparently, the opponents made more progress in the second training session than we did, so we have some questions. I drove clean laps, but apparently the car just doesn't have enough pace. So now we are in the role of laggards.
We'll have to work tonight to find the speed we need to get back into the fight. I know we can do it, and I'm looking forward to one of the best qualifying sessions of the season."
Franco Colapinto (20th): "It was great to drive a Formula 1 car on the Monaco circuit for the first time today. There are unique challenges to be solved on this track, and the rider must be very confident in order to complete a fast lap. Today's two training sessions were dedicated to building my confidence, and now I feel like I'm in good shape before Saturday.
I drove a few long positive runs, but I was hampered by heavy traffic and red flags in the second practice session, which made the job more difficult. We're a bit short on speed, so we'll have to work tonight to figure out how we can get more out of both cars, considering how important qualifying is this weekend.
Pierre and I will work together to come back stronger on Saturday."
