Carlos Sainz: This is not how the Monaco Grand Prix should be
The Monaco race was the fourth in a row in which Williams scored points with two cars. Alex Albon finished ninth, Carlos Sainz – tenth.
During the race, both team drivers deliberately held back their rivals in order to help each other create a time reserve for the second pit stop. The tactic worked, but after the finish, both Alex and Carlos admitted that they were not happy with such a race.
Alex Albon (9th): "Neither Carlos nor I want to race like we did today. It's not pleasant, but it was a tactical game, and we implemented it. Racing Bulls were the first to start, and we knew that since they started first, we had to respond.
If we look at the picture realistically, we lost the race on Saturday. In Monaco, you pay the price for that – you finish in the same positions you started from. The weekend was a bit disappointing as we didn't achieve the maximum we could. Nevertheless, we managed to earn three points for the team, so we continue to fight."
Carlos Sainz (10th): "This is not the race we wanted. We and the other teams kept a certain pace to create gaps, but that's not how the Monaco Grand Prix should be. The team did a great job, but I understand the disappointment of the opponents, because we ourselves became a victim of circumstances.
On the positive side, we scored points with two cars again, although there were more problems in qualifying than we expected.
The team is going to Barcelona for the final stage of the combined series. I'm looking forward to racing in front of my fans and hope we share a good weekend with them."
