Max Verstappen's father rejects claims of a conflict with his son.
"People fabricate stories"
Jos Verstappen states that too much is being speculated regarding his absences from the Formula 1 paddock in 2025. Since his father Max became heavily involved in the Christian Horner controversy at Red Bull last year, he has seldom been seen in the Red Bull garage. Some believe the 53-year-old former F1 driver was advised to maintain his distance by Red Bull, while others think he might have had a falling out with his famous son.
Verstappen senior has made his return to the paddock in Monaco, marking his first F1 appearance since the pre-season testing in Bahrain. "Sometimes it might be beneficial that I wasn’t present," the Dutchman openly acknowledged to De Telegraaf. Nonetheless, he asserts that there is nothing contentious about his absences.
"People fabricate stories," Jos remarked. "We communicate every day, and our relationship is very strong. However, Max has his own life, as do I, and I don’t want to be an overbearing father. Over the years, I've realized the importance of allowing things to unfold naturally."
Verstappen senior went on to say: "My participation in rallying, which I genuinely enjoy, also contributed to my absence. Additionally, my wife has health issues, so I want to be there for her as well.
"I believe everyone knows that I find Formula 1 less thrilling than it once was," Jos added. "But the most crucial thing is that Max is in a good place and everything is proceeding as usual.
"I don’t need to be present either. I can easily live without Formula 1."
