In the last laps of the Spanish Grand Prix, there was a controversial incident involving Max Verstappen and George Russell. Max argued with his race engineer about whether he should let Russell pass ahead, after which he slowed down, making it clear to the Mercedes driver that he was letting him pass, and when George tried to drive forward, Max crashed into Russell.
The stewards punished Verstappen with an increase of ten seconds to the result, but there are opinions in the paddock that Max should be disqualified for this. After the race, the Red Bull Racing driver was asked if he intentionally crashed into Russell.
"Does it matter? Max Verstappen replied. "I prefer to talk about the race rather than discussing individual episodes."
When asked about his chances of winning the title after such a race, Max said: "If there were any chances at all. I think we're too slow to fight for the title. Today we have seen this again.
We tried to implement a three-stop strategy, and I think it worked well. Moreover, we needed such a strategy due to the high degradation of rubber. Unfortunately, the safety car pulled out closer to the finish line, and we just didn't have the right tires left. When there are six laps left, everyone is attacking at the limit, and my Hard tires didn't provide enough grip."
