Leclair: I'm happy with the weekend, but not with our form.

After the Barcelona finish, Leclair talked about the unexpected podium and the car's lack of speed.…

Question: Charles, tell us how you got to third place at the restart... Charles Leclair: When Max got the Hard tires at the end of the race, I thought: "It's not the best line-up for the last five laps." I got a great opportunity to attack him and get on the podium. Max actively entered the last corner, lost the back of the car at the exit, then we were driving side by side and I ended up in third. Then our cars touched.

Question: Max was shouting on the radio that you had bumped into him. How would you rate this contact?Charles Leclair: I would have reacted emotionally too if I was riding third and I was attacked. I think he understood that it would be very difficult to regain the position on this track with Hard tires.

To be honest, I don't really think about it. Nothing like that happened. I attacked from the inside radius, he tried to pin me on the dirty side of the track, but I had the advantage in speed because of his mistake. And then I tried to go into the slipstream behind the McLaren, shifting to the left. He didn't seem to want to move. We touched a little bit, but nothing much happened.

Q: You have reached the podium in Monaco and Barcelona, on two completely different tracks. How confident are you in the car and that you will be able to finish on the podium in the next races?Charles Leclair: In Barcelona, I got on the podium because I was lucky with the safety car. The fourth place is more in line with our speed. I don't think this podium has added to my confidence. But we strive for it.

I think we're gradually starting to understand the car, finding settings that allow us to achieve more. But they are still very close to extreme, which is not very pleasant. If we don't upgrade soon, it will be difficult for us to compete for podiums on a regular basis.

Q: Last week you were disappointed with the second place in Monaco. Can I say that you enjoyed this podium more under the circumstances?Charles Leclair: Yes. It's not that I'm thrilled with the second or third place, but it's nice anyway, because I didn't expect such a result before the start of the weekend.

In Monaco, it was a big disappointment because we were strong in all the training sessions, but in Barcelona it was not. But on Saturday, I knew that I was sacrificing qualifying to perform better in the race, and it paid off – with a bit of luck, we won the podium. I'm happy with the weekend, but not with our form. We need to take a step forward in this regard.
