Jody Schecter was left without a driver's license in Italy

Jody Schecter, who won the championship title with the Ferrari team in 1979, moved to Italy a year and a half ago. Now the former racer lives on the Ligurian coast of the Mediterranean Sea, but he has an unexpected and very serious problem.

He worries that he has been left without a driver's license, because the validity period of the certificate he received in the UK has expired.

"I could drive with my license for a year, but now it's expired," Scheckter told the Corriere della Sera newspaper. "To restore it, I need to re–enroll in driving courses, but the problem is that I speak Italian very poorly and simply won't be able to pass the exam.".

In the hope that his former Formula 1 team will help solve the problem, Scheckter has already contacted Ferrari, as well as local lawyers.

"I chose Italy, it's the country I want to live in, but it would also be nice to get my driver's license back," added the 75-year-old South African Formula 1 veteran.

After completing his career in motorsport, Scheckter became a successful entrepreneur, and when he sold his business, earning $100 million, he moved from the United States to the United Kingdom, where he was engaged in ecological farming, but now that he is over 70, he lives in Italy.
