Palou suggests that a Cadillac F1 switch would be a 'waste.'

Alex Palou believes that switching to Formula 1 would be a "waste" of his most competitive years. The 2025 Indy 500 winner, who is on track for his fourth IndyCar championship this season, was recently associated with a potential Cadillac F1 seat for 2026. He promptly rejected the notion.

"Even if they say 'No, don’t worry, you can come back in one or two years,’ what if suddenly everyone advances, and I’m never able to catch up?" he shared with the Indianapolis Star.

Palou contemplated a move to F1 several years ago, but it ultimately led to a bitter contractual clash between his IndyCar team, Chip Ganassi, and McLaren.

"I’m pleased that I was able to make amends with Chip Ganassi after all that chaos," the 28-year-old Spaniard remarked to Germany’s Auto Motor und Sport.

Regarding the possibility of another F1 opportunity, Palou suggested that he feels disrespected by figures like Williams’ James Vowles and Ferrari's Frederic Vasseur. When asked by Auto Motor und Sport if he finds amusement in Vowles’ assertion that he requires at least a full year of F1 testing, or Vasseur’s claim that Palou has been "forgotten," he responded, "Absolutely!"

"But let’s not get it twisted - I love Formula 1, and it has always been my dream. The timing just isn’t right at the moment.

"Why should I spend three or four years with a team that can't win? That’s not how I envision racing. I want to compete for victories - particularly at the Indy 500 - and for championships. That’s the only way I’ll find happiness."

Regarding the Cadillac speculations, Palou stated, "It is primarily driven by the fans. I’m observing it quite calmly from the viewpoint of an F1 spectator."
