Derek Warwick: Hamilton is thinking about leaving
Lewis Hamilton has signed a two-year contract with Ferrari, but the first races of the season did not bring the driver the results he expected. Former Formula 1 driver, winner of the 24 Hours of Le Mans and current FIA steward Derek Warwick believes Hamilton is already thinking about retiring early.
Derek Warwick: "I do not know why Lewis Hamilton is not doing well at Ferrari. It's kind of a mystery. When he won the sprint in China, I thought it would be a turning point, but the car still doesn't fit him.
We all thought that Lewis joining Ferrari was a great opportunity to win his eighth title, but the problem is with the car. Many critics may say that since Charles Leclair is used to such a car, the seven-time world champion and winner of 105 races must also adapt to the car. But for some reason, Lewis can't do it.
I think many people underestimate, including Lewis himself, how difficult it is to settle into a new team. It's about getting used to their system, their briefings, how to make the team understand the rider and vice versa.
Do I want Lewis to win races and fight for the title? Yes, because I think he deserves it. He earned his eighth title. But that's not going to happen this year. And I guess he's already thinking about stopping and leaving."
