"However, it truly harms the team."

Frederic Vasseur has continued his criticism of what he perceives to be disruptive Formula 1 journalists. While acknowledging that his three-year contract is nearing its end, the 57-year-old arrived in Montreal this week amidst intense speculation regarding his future as the Ferrari team principal. Vasseur had previously condemned similar reports from La Gazzetta dello Sport and Corriere della Sera, while Corriere dello Sport reported that Lewis Hamilton was infuriated in Barcelona when adjustments were made to his car without his consent.

"The only plausible explanation is that these journalists are either seeking personal recognition or attempting to create turmoil within the team. Or maybe it’s a combination of both," he stated on Canal Plus on Saturday. "Perhaps this is the only way for the media to survive, relying on these sensational stories. But it genuinely harms the team. From the beginning of the weekend, this has been the focus."

Vasseur expressed his frustration, noting that the rumors are not solely concerning him. "When names are thrown around, when fabricated signings are mentioned that never took place, when you claim that Charles (Leclerc) is joining Mercedes next year..." he remarked. "If they wish to support or at least remain close to the team, they are failing. We need to reflect on the reasons why Ferrari hasn’t achieved victory in years. We've changed team leaders, we've changed drivers, we've altered nearly everything. Except for one thing."

Vasseur did not specify what that 'one thing' is, but he may be alluding to himself. "My position is inherently precarious," said the Frenchman, appointed team boss in 2023. "It’s akin to being a football coach. We understand that when you take on this role, whether at Ferrari or elsewhere, you are vulnerable. Statistically, an average of three team managers change each season. I didn’t join Ferrari with the expectation of a lifelong tenure."

"I aim to develop the team, enhance its performance, and create something worthwhile. However, we won’t secure a championship in this manner. Certainly not with this type of journalism surrounding us."
